I want to start with a coach. Where do I start? The process begins with a complimentary 30-minute consultation. This is where we determine if you and I are a good fit and provides you with the opportunity to ask and pertinent questions.

How often are the sessions? Sessions take place once per week, on the same day, and at the same time. This creates consistency and usually adequate time between sessions to experiment with newly acquired thought patterns and/or behaviours.

What happens during a coaching session? Coaching is a partnership between you and me, where we will explore your presenting concerns. At times, I may also gently encourage you to explore how to make positive changes in your life based on your aspirations. Coaching recognises the client as the expert in their life and the coach’s responsibility is to acknowledge this and support the client’s growth and development in a way that honours the client’s individuality.

How many sessions should I start with? Coaching is a journey that requires time, practice and patience. Behaviour change needs to be assessed, altered, and re-evaluated. Therefore, it is recommended to start with a minimum of 8 sessions.

How is this different to therapy? Coaching focuses on the client’s present experience and develops new thinking and behaviour to enhance their personal development and self-improvement. Counselling helps the client to determine how their past and any underlying causes have contributed to their current struggles, and then develop coping skills to manage their life better.

What can a coach help me with? Most often people will seek out coaching to help them resolve an issue in their life. Issues such as procrastination, being too self-critical, and needing assistance with self-esteem are common, but there is a wide scope that coaches can effectively assist their clients.
